At Belleville First UMC, we believe in the power of prayer because it is direct communication with the One who first created us, first loved us, and who promised to always be there for us.

So for us, prayer is not our last hope but our first tool to fully understand God's love and presence in our lives. While God's answers may be yes, no, or wait, by faith we trust that God will do the best thing for each one of us.

Philippians 4:6-7 NIV even tells us, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

"Prayer is how we communicate with God. In prayer, we share our hearts. We also pause to listen for wisdom and guidance. As John Wesley wrote, "All that a Christian does, even in eating and sleeping, is prayer, when it is done in simplicity, according to the order of God." - umc.org
